September Mission of the Month: Gifts of the Kits Delivered to Church World Service (CWS)
Last week Laura Bachmann, Mike Fleming and Susan Tarr delivered 31 school kits and 15 emergency cleanup kits to the CWS warehouse in New Windsor, MD.

Covenant’s Gift of the kits joined rows and rows of kits from all over the United States--ready to be shipped to those in need of assistance after the next disaster.

Thanks to all who donated school supplies, sewed bags and/or bought cleanup items for the kits. A big thanks to CVS for a $100 gift card and to Home Depot for a 20% discount on the kit completion purchase (funded by the Deacons’ Fund with your communion offerings). And a special thanks to the children and adults who put all the kits together on Rally Day. Mission accomplished!
October Mission of the Month
Glean for AFAC, Saturday, October 23, 2010 7:30am(meet at church)– 1pm

Join in a fun and rewarding mission to glean fresh produce for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Gleaning is an old term associated with the law in Leviticus which tasked growers to not only allow the poor to follow behind the harvesters and claim the extra crops but also to be generous in leaving some crops along the edges of the fields so those less fortunate did not starve.
We will meet at the church and carpool to Miller Farms in Clinton, MD (about 45 minutes away).
Check out their website at http://millerfarmsclinton.com/community-work/. The group will work for a couple hours, gathering vegetables and hauling them to trucks on site, then return to the church by 1pm. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring gloves, sunscreen, water, and a bag lunch.
FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WELCOME! Sign up on the sheet in the church lobby or give your name to Barbara Fleming (barbarafleming@aol.com or 703-533-3933).
