Christian Formation in Series
Sundays 10:00am in the Library Lounge
September 20 to November 1. The Six Great Ends of the Church. Grab your coffee in the lobby or at your favorite outside supplier (sometimes there is Dunkin Donuts coffee) and meet the group that sits around a table for about an hour before worship.
Monday Morning Quarterbacks (MMQB)
Mondays, 8:30 am in the Teen Lounge, Education Wing
This group of men has been meeting weekly for more than 20 years. They are just what the name implies; a group who are second-guessing, forecasting, recounting and generally discussing sports and any other current topics--politics, economics, theology, Arlington, food, movies and of course, Church of the Covenant. No punches have ever been thrown nor has anyone ever been turned away. Juice, donuts or biscuits, coffee and tea are also on the menu. Open to all!
Tuesday Morning Bible Study
Tuesdays, 10:00 -11:00 am in the Library Lounge
Beginning, Tuesday, September 15, the group reads the Gospel of John together. N.T. Wright compares the Gospel of John to a mansion with a long winding driveway holding "signs with pictures of the various rooms in the house and the people you [are] going to meet there." The prologue to the Gospel (John 1:1-18) is the gateway and the beginning of the journey.
The study of the Fourth Gospel with fellow travelers meets weekly in the church library. The class will be using N.T. Wright's discussion guide for the Gospel of John from his "For Everyone" Bible study series. Teacher: Susan Tarr
Soup Suppers and Lectio Divina
Thursdays 6:30pm in Library Lounge, Education Wing
A rotating group of soup-makers provides a simple meal. Those who want to stay begin a quiet time of scripture reading and reflection at 7:00pm, focusing on the scripture passages that will be read in worship on Sunday. Bring your own bowl for soup.
Adult Respite Bible Study
Thursdays at 7:30 to 9:00pm in Library Lounge, Education Wing (follows lectio divina)
Teaching and discussion of (usually) biblical texts. We are currently covering the book of 1 John and then the letter of James. Need child care? Speak to Pastor Beth. Start and stop, depending upon your own schedule. Discussion notes will be tied to Pastor Beth’s blog posts, so you can partake as you need on-line, too.
Dessert & Dialogue
A rotating meeting spiritual Book Club, meets in homes with an ad hoc schedule. “Would you like to Grow old gracefully?” is the subtitle of Joan Chittister's book, The Gift of Years, the current selection of the Dessert & Dialogue discussion group. Interested? Come to the discussion on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 pm in the Library Lounge and see. No commitment--just dessert! Check the calendar for the next book and meeting place.
