Dear Covenant Members and Friends:

Among the many rituals of fall here at Church of the Covenant is Pledge Sunday.  This year, we will gather on Sunday, November 13 to dedicate our resources to God.

By mid-November, we have enjoyed the bounty of the harvest, peeped at the reds and yellows of the fall foliage and are often anticipating the joy of Thanksgiving celebrations. We are grateful for what God has provided. We are also acutely aware that we have an obligation to give back.

Jesus’ early followers, even before splitting from Judaism, were known as “people of the way.”  Their lives, like that of Jesus, were devoted to the care of the most vulnerable. These followers pooled resources and sacrificed in order to provide for others. They also took good care of each other, as faithful communities do.

Our faith tells us to trust in “the way.”  The more we can adhere to the teachings of Jesus, the closer we come to God’s will for His Creation. This is a never-ending journey, but one we, as Christians, travel together.

Christians are called in various ways and to many types of service.  Could we fulfill some of those calls outside of a church?  Of course. But the Spirit is magnified in community. We are stronger and our commitment is deeper when we gather together with a single focus - the love of God and of one another.

On Sunday, November 13, we will ask for your pledge for the upcoming year.  As you prepare to pledge, please consider the ways in which our community - the Church of the Covenant - has encouraged you, has inspired you, has educated you so that you can more fully love God and love your neighbor.  Please fill out the enclosed pledge card and bring it with you to the luncheon on the 13th or mail or drop it by the church office.

Thank you all for your continued devotion - financial and otherwise - to our church.  I hope to see everyone on November 13th.

              Acts 20:35

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help

the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more

blessed to give than to receive.'"
