10:00am in the Library Lounge--Faith Walks in the History of the Church
Monday Morning Quarterbacks (MMQB) -
Mondays, 8:30 am in the Teen Lounge
This group of men has been meeting weekly for more than 20 years. They are just what the name implies; a group who are second-guessing, forecasting, recounting and generally discussing sports and any other current topics--politics, economics, theology, Arlington, food, movies and of course, Church of the Covenant. No punches have ever been thrown nor has anyone ever been turned away. Juice, donuts or biscuits, coffee and tea are also on the menu. Open to all!
Tuesday Morning Bible Study - September - May, Tuesdays, 10:00 -11:00 am in the Library Lounge
If you made a New Year's resolution to treat yourself to more Bible-reading in 2015, it's not too late to start studying the Gospel of Mark: Tuesday Morning Bible Study resumes on January 13 with Chapter 6 of the Gospel of Mark--a long chapter which features, among other stories, Jesus' rejection by his own town, his sending out the 12 disciples, and Herod's beheading of John the Baptist. The group meets weekly from 10 to 11 am, and newcomers are always welcome. The Gospel of Mark focus will continue through April.
Thursday Evening Soup Suppers and Lectio Devina 6:30pm. A rotating group of soup-makers provides a simple meal at 6:30pm in Library Lounge. Those who want to stay begin a quiet time of scripture reading and reflection at 7:00pm, focusing on the scripture passages that will be read in worship on Sunday. Bring your own bowl for soup.
Thursday Evening Bible Study at 7:30pm
In the five weeks we have before Lent, we'll be studying the Book of Ecclesiastes, no prior Bible familiarity needed.
Dessert & Dialogue
On Tuesday, January 27 at 7:30 pm, you are invited to join a discussion of Marilynne Robinson's newest novel, Lila, a "prequel" to Robinson's Pulitzer
Prize-winning Gilead. In Lila, according to the New York Review of Books, " Robinson poses doctrinal questions about predestination and grace,
about the afterlife and who will be there and who will not, serious questions only for the sincerest of believers, yet they become serious in Robinson's
telling for the rest of us as well." For more information, contact Susan Tarr at 703-527-7816. The discussion of Lila will continue with a second meeting in
February at a date and place TBD.
All are welcome!
